A visit to Kew Gardens is the perfect way to combine London sightseeing with a literal 'breath of fresh air'. A whopping 121 hectares of space makes it one of the largest botanical gardens in the world! See orangery, a 10-story pagoda, a mosque, the cool Temperate Gardens, a unique treetop walkway 18 meters above the ground, and more. Founded in 1840, Kew Gardens boasts over 30,000 different kinds of plants and is more like a green outdoor museum. Explore the manicured outdoors, and see different periods of landscape architecture and gardening styles. Don't miss Temperate House, the largest Victorian glasshouse in the world! This Grade I listed building boasts some of the rarest and most threatened temperate zone plants from Africa, Australia, New Zealand, the Americas, Asia and the Pacific Islands.
The 18-meter high Treetop Walkway puts you up among the branches. The Orangery lets you smell the sweet citrus trees, and the Classical-style brick Kew Palace is always fit for a photo or two. Kew Gardens also has two different art galleries - the Marianne North Gallery hosts art from around the world, while the Shirley Sherwood contains botanical art.
